Michael Blake Kruse doesn’t consider himself a connoisseur of Christmas cinema by any means, but there’s one exception that holds a special place in his heart.             “I’m a big fan of ‘A Christmas Story,’” the 2008 BCLUW High School graduate said of the 1983 ode to Ralphie Parker and his Red Ryder BB gun.

At a certain point in life, the central question of Christmas transforms from “What awesome gifts am I going to get this year?” to “How in the heck am I going to pay for all of these gifts?” If you’re like me, you’re transitioning into the latter, and it’s yet another reminder of how much fun adulthood really is.
           

Members of the Conrad city council listened to budget proposals from spokespeople for several city departments, including fire, BCERTS, the Heritage Hall Museum and the park board, during Thursday night’s regular meeting.
           
Gary Stattler of the museum board told the council that the group needed more room to store items and was interested in a possible expansion. The Smithsonian’s Museum on Main will be coming to Conrad next winter, and Stattler noted that of the current board members, two are over 80 and one has cancer.
           

ACKLEY – Mandy Willems and Aubrie Fisher scored in double figures as the AGWSR girls basketball team defeated Grundy Center, 46-38, in a battle of unbeaten teams on Friday.
 
Willems scored 19 points and Aubrie Fisher added 13 points with five rebounds and four assists for the Cougars. Ally Finger added 10 rebounds as AGWSR improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the North Iowa Cedar League West.
