Supervisors discuss road-paving projects

The Grundy County Board of Supervisors and county engineer Gary Mauer addressed a pair of road-paving projects during the board’s regular meeting on Monday morning.
           
According to Mauer, the supervisors in Black Hawk County have backed out of a project that would have paved five miles of Grundy Road, a gravel road on the border between the two counties, for the time being due to concerns about bonding. The project could still be completed in the future, but the supervisors hoped to get a clearer picture on when that might be.
           

Ernst pushes for health care, regulatory reform during GCMH stop

The fate of the Affordable Care Act and Critical Access Hospitals dominated the discussion when U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) visited the Grundy County Memorial Hospital to meet with executives, board members and local officials last Wednesday morning.
           

Gladbrook-Reinbeck school bus collides with vehicle

GLADBROOK - A traffic collision between a school bus and a vehicle early this morning left a few students feeling sore, but with no major injuries.
The incident happened at approximately 7:50 this morning on Highway 96 at the east edge of Gladbrook, near Goos Implement.

Altmayer pleads not guilty, trial set for July

The Ankeny man charged in connection with a pair of attempted child enticements in the Dike area last summer has entered a written plea of not guilty, and his Grundy County trial is tentatively set for July.
           

Childers opens new salon in Wellsburg

Ashley Childers has lived in Wellsburg since she was eight years old, and now she can say that she works here, too: last week, she opened Ashley’s, a new hair salon located at 403 North Adams Street.
           
Prior to embarking on her latest endeavor, Childers, who attended Timothy Christian School, was dual-enrolled at Grundy Center High School and graduated from the Iowa School of Beauty, was commuting to Marshalltown, where she was a stylist at Headliner.
           

BCLUW, Hawkeye partner for STEM week

Virtual reality pretty much allows students to do anything these days: dissect a cat, tear down an engine, learn about wiring or perform a medical procedure, to name a few. Students at BCLUW, in partnership with Hawkeye Community College, worked in a “STEMi” truck that sat outside of the middle school in Union last week and got a taste of the future of technology in the process.
           

Local officials hold preliminary meeting on Black Hawk Creek partnership

Although concrete details were sparse, a consortium of state and local conservation officials expressed a mutual interest in establishing a water quality and flooding mitigation partnership for Black Hawk Creek during a meeting at the Grundy County Conservation Office in Morrison on Friday afternoon.
