GRUNDY CENTER – Recently, the Main Street Grundy Center Board of Directors announced the selection of new MSGC executive director – Bobbi Finarty – who takes over the position from previous director Kristin Cleveland.
Finarty, a Grundy Center resident, has served for a number of years as a business development specialist and sales manager for a regional agricultural cooperative, where she provided marketing and communications, training and sales support.

Spreading the holiday cheer

GRUNDY CENTER – You can find him walking down the streets of Grundy Center, bells jingling with every step. You’ll notice the cars honking, the children waving and people craning their heads for a better view. He’s the man with the big white beard, sporting a bright red jacket trimmed in white. His name is Marty Hill, and he spends his time spreading the Christmas spirit by dressing up as the Jolly Old Saint Nick.
Hill first got the calling a few years back, he says, when a random man approached him and told him how much he resembled Santa Claus with his big white beard.

Wolverines pounce early, throttle Spartans

Dike-New Hartford scored 19 of the first 21 points and never looked back in last Thursday night’s non-conference tilt with Grundy Center, coasting to a 69-45 win over the Spartans.

“Our whole goal was to get a fast start and try and set it with defense and tempo, and I thought we did a pretty good job,” D-NH coach Greg Moore said. “We had some defensive lapses, but overall, I thought we played pretty well.”

Spartan girls escape nail-biter with Wolverines

A win is a win, no matter how you get it, and Grundy Center girls’ basketball coach Matt Lindeman was excited to head into break with a victory after his team defeated Dike-New Hartford 34-31 last Thursday night in cross-divisional NICL action.

“Everybody stepped up at different times and played a key role in this win. It was nice to finish that,” Grundy Center coach Matt Lindeman said. “We didn’t play real well, but we found a way to win.”

Salvation Army looks to grow in Grundy County

During the holiday season, the Salvation Army has become a ubiquitous presence across the country: the organization is known for placing bell ringers outside of major shopping centers, and it got a national plug last Sunday when Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott jumped into a life-size kettle on the field after scoring a touchdown. What people may not know, however, is that the Salvation Army actually has a chapter in Grundy County, and local representative Jane Katzer of rural Conrad is hoping to increase its outreach to help more families in need.
