GC police chief honored for support to armed forces

GRUNDY CENTER – Grundy Center Police Chief Doug Frost was recently honored with the Patriotic Employer Award from the Iowa Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense.
The award recognizes Frost for his extraordinary support of a Grundy Center Police Dept. employee who serves in the Iowa National Guard and Reserve.

City council approves TIF agreement for new farm equipment distributor

GRUNDY CENTER – A new business, American Farm Equipment, LLC, is set to open its doors later this year, and the Grundy Center City Council is welcoming the new development with a TIF rebate agreement.
At the council meeting on Monday night, the council passed a resolution to expand the Urban Renewal District to include America Farm Equipment, LLC.
Following that, they agreed upon a resolution to approve the developer agreement for American Farm Equipment, LLC, including annual appropriation tax increment payments not to exceed $80,000 over a 10 year period.

Local law enforcement warns against leaving cars unlocked after rash of break-in's

GRUNDY CENTER - Between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, over 18 Grundy Center residents reported that their cars had been broken into; though in each case, the vehicle was left unlocked.
In some cases, items such as cash and baseball tickets were stolen, but in other cases, the vehicle was entered and ransacked but nothing was stolen.
Grundy Center Police Chief Doug Frost said there were several instances in which a car was entered, and there was an opportunity to steal an item such as a purse, billfold, laptop or other valuables, but nothing was taken.

Comets go cold offensively, settle for fourth at state

The postseason winning ways ended for the BCLUW softball team here Thursday and Friday, as the Comets failed to score a run in their final two games against Van Meter and Logan-Magnolia, respectively, and settled for a fourth place finish in Class 2A at the state tournament.

   The Comets dropped a 2-0 decision to Van Meter in the Class 2A semi-finals of the Iowa Girls’ High School State Softball Championships at the Rogers’ Sports Complex.

Maria's Tacos to open Conrad location

One of the most popular Mexican restaurants in Marshalltown is expanding into Conrad, as Maria’s Tacos began selling its signature fare from a food truck here on Tuesday with plans to eventually move into one half of the former Carol’s building on Main Street.

For Conrad City Clerk and Administrator Denise Hoy, the community of Conrad, Montana—a small town of about 2,500 residents nestled in the northwest part of the state and located east of Glacier National Park—is quite familiar: in her 20 years on the job, she has received bills, payments and all sorts of mail that were meant for the “other” Conrad. When Hoy and her husband Barry recently took a vacation in Big Sky Country, they stopped in Conrad, visited city hall and finally explored their sister city for the first time.
           

Supervisors approve annex bond sale, discuss home business ordinance

The Grundy County Board of Supervisors received bids and directed the sale of bonds for the new annex building during a special meeting on Monday afternoon, in addition to its regular business conducted in the morning.
           

Grundy County extension celebrates 100 years

During the Grundy County Fair last week, the county’s Iowa State University Extension Office marked its 100-year anniversary. County 4-H and Youth Coordinator Andrea Traeger caught up with The Grundy Register on Tuesday to discuss the history of the extension office, its mission and its future.
           

School board votes to discontinue golf, track sharing with G-R

GRUNDY CENTER – At last week’s regularly scheduled Grundy Center school board meeting, board members voted to end several sharing agreements with Gladbrook-Reinbeck, including golf and track sharing for both boys and girls. The board also voted to end the wrestling sharing agreement with G-R and North Tama.
At least one decision, the decision to end golf sharing, was mutual between the two schools, as the G-R school board had already voted to end it at their May meeting.
