Jennifer Hoodjer, 47, passed away at her home in Camdenton, Missouri, after a courageous battle with ALS. Visitation was held March 24 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines. Funeral services were held March 25 at Rising Sun Church of CHrist in Pleasant Hill.

Jessica Burgess, 33, of Waverly and formerly of Marshalltown passed away on March 21 at her home. Visitation was held March 25 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Funeral services were held March 26 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly.

Gladys R. Van Deest, 100, of Grundy Center passed away March 22 at her home in Grundy Center while under the care of Unity Point Hospice. Visitation was held March 27 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. 

Minutemen gear up for second season

The Tri-County Minutemen—a high school American Legion team consisting of players from the South Hardin, Grundy Center and BCLUW districts—are ready for another season of baseball coming off of a 4-5-1 mark in their inaugural campaign.
 

EDF representatives make pitch to supervisors

Most of Monday morning’s regular meeting of the Grundy County Board of Supervisors consisted of a presentation from EDF Renewable Energy, Inc. on the proposed Ivester Wind Farm as the board prepares to vote on whether to allow its construction in the near future.
 

Comet boys to field young track team in 2016

There’s a saying that BCLUW boys track and field coach Les Penick has become known for: tradition never graduates. Though the longest tenured coach in the NICL will enter this season with some uncertainty and without a host of returning experience, he’s confident that his group can still become something special as the year goes on.
 
“A lot of question marks,” he said in an interview on Thursday. “Just to start the season (at Tuesday’s Wartburg Co-Ed Meet), we’re going to have six different guys running 800’s and six different guys running 400’s.”
 

Conrad council approves budget, mulls funding for mural project

At its regular meeting on Thursday evening, the Conrad city council approved its budget as presented for fiscal year 2017 and discussed a request from the Chamber-Main Street Mural Committee for city funding of the proposed project.

GRUNDY COUNTY – For the past 12 years, the “100 Great Iowa Nurses” program has honored nurses all across the state for their courage, competence, and commitment to patients and the nursing profession. This year, two area locals were honored for their outstanding service in the field of nursing.
Area honorees include:
·      Lara Kyhl of New Hartford, Waverly Health Center
·      Melinda Sharff-Eggers of Gladbrook, Tama County Public Health & Home Care

New scoreboard installed at middle school-high school

GRUNDY CENTER – While students were away at spring break, a brand new scoreboard was being installed at the Grundy Center Middle School-High School track.
The new scoreboard cost around $65,000 according to Superintendent Jerry Schutz, but over half of that amount, $40,000, was paid for by four different sponsors: GNB Bank, the Spartan Boosters Club, McMartin Foundation and Greenbelt Bank. Schutz said that there are still two more spots lecft for sponsors, who will have their logo displayed on the scoreboard.
