GCMH announces building purchase

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy County Memorial Hospital has announced its plans to purchase the building now occupied by the Grundy County REC, which lies directly north of the hospital.
A real estate purchase agreement between the hospital and the REC has recently been approved by the boards of both organizations, and the hospital is set to take possession of the building on March 1.

School board weighs pros and cons of semester system

GRUNDY CENTER – At the Grundy Center School Board meeting last Thursday, Paul Hamann, a member of the public, addressed the board on why he believes the district should switch from the trimester system to a semester system.

BCLUW school board approves budget calendar

At Monday night’s regular meeting, the BCLUW school board approved its budget calendar for 2016 and received updated valuation information for the district in all three of the counties it covers.

The Conrad city council got its first real look at plans for the long awaited new fire station to be built at the Smith Development during Thursday night’s regular meeting as two representatives from the IS Group attended to discuss the proposal and answer questions.

Local church group helps clothe families in need

GRUNDY COUNTY – Last year, council and committee members of the Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Dike decided that with plenty of in-need families right here in Grundy County, they wanted to extend their outreach closer to home.
Their solution – The Family Closet. 
The Family Closet is a free, need-based clothing distribution center located in the basement of the Fredsville Church. There are no restrictions based off of location or income, so anyone can come from anywhere and take as much or as little clothing as they want for free, and anonymously.

County Republicans and Democrats gear up for Iowa caucuses

GRUNDY COUNTY – With the Iowa caucuses set to kick off on February 1, county Republicans and Democrats are making a call to local voters to exercise their citizenly duties and participate in the caucuses here in Grundy County.
Both local parties said that they expect this year’s caucus to be a big one, as it is a presidential election year.

Ardith V. Culbertson

Ardith Vera Culbertson, 85, of Gladbrook, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away on Jan. 14, 2016 at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook. A memorial service was held on Jan. 19 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home i n Grundy Center. Memorails may be directed to family to be designated to a charity of thier choice at a later time.
