BREAKING NEWS - Grundy Center city clerk resigns

Grundy Center City Clerk Rich Riesberg has resigned Wednesday, the same day that the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation visited City Hall.

The resignation was first reported on KWWL television Thursday. The Waterloo-based station spoke with Mayor Rex Van Wert, who said the investigation was "not financial" in nature, but offered no other information.

The Grundy Center City Council meets Monday at 7 p.m., where VanWert told KWWL that Riesberg's resignation will be formally acted upon.

What’s all that crowing about?

GRUNDY CENTER — The sound emanating from the chicken barn at the Iowa State Fairgrounds was more than your normal wake-up call earlier this summer. It was the sound of one of the many novelty contests at the State Fair — one that a Grundy Center family has become a regular at.
Earlier this summer Kay Schmidt picked up her fourth State Fair Rooster Crowing Contest title, defeating a strong group of competitors.

School Bond issue falls far short

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center Community School District’s controversial bond issue proved unpopular with voters Tuesday, who overwhelmingly defeated the measure that would have allowed taxpayer funding for a project to build additions at both the elementary and secondary schools.
In addition, voters declined to reelect the current School Board president, instead placing newcomers in two of the three open four-year Board seats.
