Kenneth ‘Ken’ Eugene Poe

CONRAD -- Kenneth “Ken” Eugene Poe, 81, of Conrad, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, at his home under the care of Iowa River Hospice. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi – St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation began 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Interment will be at the Conrad Cemetery in Conrad.

Ken was born July 25, 1943, to Cleo and Harriet (Wilkens) Poe in Marshalltown. He graduated from Beaman-Conrad High School in 1961. He married Delores Zmolek on October 10, 1964, in Clutier. The two made their homes in Casper, Wyoming and Friendswood, Texas before retiring to Conrad in 2004. Ken worked as a refinery operator for three oil companies Texaco, Amoco, and BP. He and Delores enjoyed the simple things in life; coffee on the porch, backyard birds and wildlife, and traveling to visit children and grandchildren.

Ken was a member of the St. Francis Assisi Parish in Marshalltown, Conrad Fire Department, Pheasants Forever and Conrad JC’s. In his free time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and camping. He will be missed for his outstanding memory, historical knowledge, and his dedication to his family.

Ken will be missed by his wife of 61 years, Delores, of Conrad, his children; Ronald (Mary) Poe of Lincoln, Nebraska, Robert (Beth Ann) Poe of Palm Coast, Florida, and Ryan Poe (Marc Lubinski) of Palm Springs, California, five grandchildren; Branden Poe (Norah Jones) of Cornwall, New York, Marissa (Jesse) Berry of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Jeralyn (Justine) Kiprotich of Flagstaff, Arizona, Dylan Poe and Madison Poe of Castle Rock, Colorado and three great-grandchildren; Felix Poe, and Josephine and Margot Berry. Ken will also be missed by his siblings; Jim (Barb) Poe of Ames , Roger (Pam) Poe of Conrad, Mike (Deanna) Poe of Marshalltown and Dallas (Becky) Poe of Waterloo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
