CORONADO, California - Peggee Ann Cuson passed away peacefully at age 92 on April 13th, at her home in Coronado, California, surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Coronado on Friday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m.. Peg’s ashes will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery. A celebration of life will also be held in Iowa this summer with family and friends
Born on a farm in Grundy County, to Harris Elias Long and Edith Bowers, Peg attended Whitten School and graduated from Grundy Center High School. She carried the charm, grit, and resilience of her rural roots throughout her life.
On July 17, 1955, Peg married Lieutenant (junior grade) Charles ‘Chuck’ Cuson at the Naval Training Center Chapel in San Diego. Their life together was an adventure, taking them to duty stations both overseas and throughout the United States. She was a devoted and active Navy wife, while raising their growing family and creating wonderful homes everywhere. When youngest son Todd once asked her, "Where's our home?"—she replied simply, “Where we make it.” Peg formed lifelong friendships wherever she lived.
In 1979 after Chuck’s retirement, they lived in Tucson, Arizona, for 28 years, before finally settling in Coronado in 2007. Peg had a passion for handwork and was always creating. Whether weaving at her beloved loom, knitting, or crafting stained glass, her hands were never idle. She was actively involved in the communities where they lived—from Navy Wives Clubs to starting Navy Junior swimming teams in Mare Island, Yokosuka (Japan), and Guam. She also was an avid dog lover, owning various breeds throughout her lifetime.
Peg is survived by her loving husband Chuck of nearly 70 years, and their four children: Sara, Matt, Mark, (Barb) and Todd. She was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren: Meagan (Mike), Elizabeth (Brandon), Stephanie, Katie (Garrett), Mark (Molly), Tom (Soukanya), Nate, Allie (Christian), Kelton, and Ian. She was also blessed with three great grandchildren: Claire O’Keeffe, Norah Cuson, and Charles Hallbauer.
