Spartans add second title, sit fourth in team race

The Grundy Center boys track andi field meet picked up its second championship of the state meet Saturday, winning the sprint medley relay in dramatic fashion.

Grant Newton and Brody Zinkula ran the 100-meter legs before Judd Jirovsky ran the 200-meter leg and Brayden Davie finished with the 400-meter leg. The Spartans ran neck-and-neck with North Iowa Cedar League rival Denver and PCM, Monroe for most of the race. Denver briefly took the lead in the final 100 meters, only to see Davie battle back on the inside and take the title by .08 second over Denver. 

The Spartans missed out on a chance to score more team points when they were disqualified from the shuttle hurdle relay. They stood third in the standings with two events left, both of which they are favored to score in. 

The Grundy Center girls picked up a fourth-place finish in the 800.meters from Grace Storjohann land were 10th in the team race with their 4 x 400-meter relay remaining.
