Vokes kickstarts Spartans at state track meet

Grundy Center junior Emerson Vokes kicked what the Spartans hope will be a strong state track meet with a first-place finish in the 3,200-meter run..

Vokes took the lead in the first 100 meters and led by as much as four seconds. He finished in 9 minutes, 27.66 seconds. Fellow North Iowa Cedar League competitior Conall Sauser was second in 9:31.82.

Other early results saw Grundy Center junior Judd Jirovsky place 17th in the 200-meter dash prelims and the Dike-New Hartford girls place 11th in the 4 x 800-meter relay.
