Callaway named first team all-state
After a dominating senior campaign capped off with a fourth place finish at the state tournament, BCLUW senior pitcher Olivia Callaway was named first team all-state in Class 2A by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Callaway rebounded from a disappointing junior season and finished her final campaign 23-3 on the mound with a 0.60 ERA to go with 204 strikeouts against just 21 walks allowed in 160 2/3 innings of work and an opponent’s batting average of .172. She was named the NICL West player of the year and earned a spot on the Class 2A all-tournament team for her efforts.
Highlights included a 13-strikeout performance in the season-opener, a 14-strikeout shutout against North Union, a nine-inning complete game against West Marshall in a regional playoff game and hitting the go-ahead double in an 11 inning win over top-ranked Durant in the first round of the state tournament in Fort Dodge. Offensively, Callaway batted .325 (.415 on-base percentage) with three home runs, 32 RBIs and 11 doubles.
