G-R board formally opposes dissolution

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck Board of Education has officially adopted a resolution opposing the proposed dissolution at the request of Superintendent David Hill.
“Gladbrook-Reinbeck is a great school system that is worth keeping,” Hill said in a press release. “That’s why I’m pleased that the board has decided to make it perfectly clear to the voters that a majority no vote is what will be necessary in the upcoming election if they wish to keep their school.”
The board has already held a series of meetings and public hearings related to the dissolution dating back to 2015, when residents in the southern half of the district introduced a petition in response to the closure of the Gladbrook campus, and a the final hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 17.
The resolution, which received unanimous approval on June 13, aims to clear up some misconceptions: perhaps most importantly, the difference between a yes and a no vote. A “yes” vote supports the dissolution of the district and the division of territory according to previously established lines between Dike-New Hartford, GMG, Grundy Center, Hudson and North Tama. A majority yes vote would not, however, reestablish the former Gladbrook and Reinbeck school districts or do anything to reopen the Gladbrook campus: both would cease to exist.
