Attendance issues cloud future of Center Theatre

    GRUNDY CENTER — Attendance issues have plagued movie theaters nationwide the past several years, and that trend has not escaped Grundy Center’s Center Theatre. The issue is so severe, according to theater manager Mike Steinmeyer, that if things do not turn around the theater could be in danger of closing.
    “The theater simply needs more attendance to stay open and keep our status with movie companies so we can continue to get current movie releases,” he said.

Schildroth assumes Supervisor chair

    GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy County Board of Supervisors elected its officers for its 2015 session at last Friday’s regular meeting.
    Supervisors elected Mark Schildroth to serve as the board chairman for the first time since 2010 while Barb Smith will serve as vice-chair. Procedure in recent years has been a rotation of the office among the five members of the Board, each of whom has served for several years.

Grundy County Wellness Fair set for Saturday

    GRUNDY CENTER —  Providing community members with the tools to improve personal health is the goal of the Grundy County  Wellness Fair Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Sponsors of the annual event, the Grundy County Wellness Coalition and the Grundy County Farm Bureau, have assembled more than thirty exhibits and activities for the Wellness Fair, which is free and open to everyone.
     Resources for health and well-being are available at the Fair, including free and low cost health screenings, nutrition know-how, and exercise demonstrations.

Emma deNeui, 106, of Wellsburg, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Hospice House of North Iowa in Mason City. Arthur Weiss Jr.

Arthur Weiss Jr. 82, of Dike died December 27, 2014, at the Grundy Care Center while under the care of Care Initiative Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015, with a time of fellowship immediately following until 7 p.m. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Dike Chapel. Raymond W. Muller 90, of Grundy Center died December 25, 2014, at the Grundy Care Center while under the care of Care Initiative Hospice.
