Stockdale, Cougars dominate North Tama

    TRAER — Levi Stockdale rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns Friday as AGWSR wrapped up its Class A, District 4 season with a 53-7 victory at North Tama.
    The Cougars (7-1 overall, 5-1 in District 4) wrap up their regular season at home against West Fork Friday.
    Stockdale scored a pair of first-quarter touchdowns as the Cougars built a 20-0 lead after the first 12 minutes. They led 34-0 at halftime and were up 40-0 before North Tama scored its only touchdown of the night.

Johnson, Wheat help Wolverines clinch second place in District 4

    SUMNER — Trent Johnson ran for 284 yards and a pair of long touchdowns as Dike-New Hartford clinched second place in Class 1A, District 4 with a 28-14 victory over Sumner-Fredericksburg Friday.
    The Wolverines (6-2 overall, 4-1 in the district) will qualify for the Class 1A playoffs for the fifth straight year and will most-likely host a first-round game.

Lippert, Boomsma earn All-Conference honors at NCC meet

HUMBOLDT – The Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR runners closed out the regular season with the North Central Conference meet at Humboldt last Tuesday night, where girls’ team ran to a fourth place team finish and the boys went fifth among eight NCC teams.
According to Coach Jamie Maxwell, the Cadet girls went into the meet expecting a top five finish, and edged out Webster City by eight points to take fourth.

School Board votes to close Upper Elementary

The Grundy Center School Board Wednesday, voted to close the district's upper elementary building following a heated debate. The 3-2 vote saw directors Brent Ascher, Chad Mackie and Ron Saak voting in favor of the measure and directors Bob Johanns and Kelly Mathews voting against. Darlene M. Carson

Darlene M. Carson, 79, of Grundy Center died Sunday, Oct. 12, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of cancer. Services were held at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, with burial in Union Cemetery, Union. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society. Marlin L. Kirkdorfer

Marlin L. Kirkdorfer, 80, of Eldora died October 11, 2014, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 at First Congregational United Church of Christ with burial in Eastlawn Memory Gardens, both in Eldora.Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 17 at the church. A memorial fund will be established. Boeke Funeral Home, Hubbard, is in charge of the arrangements.

Harlyn D. Meester

Harlyn D. Meester, age 82, of Grundy Center passed away at home on October 8, 2014, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service was held October 13 at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland. Burial followed at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Ackley American Legion Elliot Keninger Post #252. Memorials may be directed to the family. Lois G. McClusky Curran

Lois G. McCluskey Curran left us for her heavenly home on September 19, 2014, with her loving family by her side.  Lois had 93 wonderful years, and retained her great attitude and sense of humor until the end.  Lois will rest in peace in Grundy Center with a private family service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Macular Degeneration Research Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD, 20871, and the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
