    GRUNDY CENTER — A familiar face to the Grundy Center volunteer community has taken the reigns as a leader as a leader at the Grundy Center Chamber of Commerce.
   Long-time Grundy Center resident and volunteer Jody Latwesen was named director of the Grundy Center Chamber of Commerce last week, filling a spot that had previously been held by Renee Hockemeyer, and has since been held by interim director Tina Ehrig.
   Latwesen said her new position feels like a natural fit.

Texas Governor Perry urges local Republicans to push 30 more days to midterm election

    DIKE — Just 31 days before Iowa voters go to the polls to cast ballots in the upcoming mid-term elections, Texas Governor and possible presidential candidate Rick Perry (R, Texas) urged area Republicans to get out the vote.
   Perry spoke at a fundraiser for State Representative Pat Grassley at the Fox Ridge Golf and Country Club last Friday.
   While acknowledging that some races of interest to local voters may appear to be expected victories for the Republican Party, Perry said that does not lessen the importance of getting out the vote.

Board approves Zenor claim for attorney fees

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy County Board of Supervisors Monday approved a request from Zenor, Inc. for payment of attorney fees following the County’s attempt at condemnation of the property.

Rose Dittmer, 80, of Grundy Center passed away October 1, 2014, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. Funeral services were held October 6 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center. Burial followed the funeral service at the Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family. Junice Mae Hartke, 89, of Grundy Cente passed away October 1, 2014, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. As were her wishes, she will be cremated. A private family gathering and inurnment will be scheduled for a later date. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.
