Rev. Dick F. Harberts, 93, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, April 21, 2014, at Windhaven Assisted Living of Western Home Communities of natural causes. Funeral services were April 26  at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1926 Sager Avenue, Waterloo. Private family burial was held at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary or St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Faith Blunt Engelkes

Faith Engelkes, formerly of Grundy Center and Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2014, with two daughters at her bedside  in Albuquerque, NM. There will be a Memorial Service for both Faith and Jim Engelkes at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, on May 15 at 2 pm with a reception following. Visiting with the family before the service begins at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the Cedar Falls Community Theatre, Attn: Julie King, 103 Main Street, Cedar Falls, IA  50613.

Phyllis Ayers, 81 of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Lincoln, passed away April 19, 2014, in Tonopah, AZ. Memorial services were held on Friday, April 25 at the National Cemetery Chapel, Phoenix, AZ. Library brings Register archives to life online

    GRUNDY CENTER — Since the beginning of newspapers, those wishing to research back issues have relied on tried and true methods of searching through old newspapers and microfilm. Now, thanks to a Kling Memorial Library project funded by the Sara Lee Yoder Trust, those looking to do research in The Grundy Register have a new tool that will cut their research time exponentially.

Council asks, ‘Why all the amendments?’

    GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center City Council members want to know why the city relies so heavily in budget amendments as the end of the fiscal year nears.
    The question came up Monday as the Council heard a presentation on proposed amendments and set a public hearing for May 5 to discuss them. City Clerk Kristy Sawyer said are needed because of income from Sara Lee Yoder grants and FEMA funds as well as additional expected expenditures from the police department, library, ambulance and other areas.

Bangasser leads Spartan boys past BCLUW

CONRAD — The Grundy Center boys’ golf team improved to 2-0 on the young season last Thursday with a 165-202 victory over BCLUW at Oakwood Country Club in Conrad.
Senior Lane Bangasser paced the Spartans with a round of 39 while Sam Thompson shot 40 and both Austin Burroughs and Tanner Pelzer had rounds of 43 each. Grundy Center scratched scores were from Nick Saak (45) and Jesper Holke-Farnam 48.
