GCHS music department to present ‘Footloose’

    GRUNDY CENTER — The sounds and styles of the 1980s will come alive on the stage at Grundy Center High School this weekend, as the Grundy Center High School Music Department presents the classic film turned musical “Footloose” Friday and Sunday at the GCHS Auditorium.
    Director Emily Boquet said “Footloose” was her favorite movie growing up and that she was excited to put the show together.

‘Promise Me’ debuts to universal acclaim

    GRUNDY CENTER — The reaction in the lobby of the Center Theatre following the premier of the Grundy Center based movie “Promise Me” Friday night was nearly universal. People talked of the movie being better than expected; they talked of it being well put together … and most of all they talked of it showing Grundy Center in a positive light.
    Terri Shepard, who played the lead adult role of Diane, said she had no idea what to expect from the film and was pleasantly surprised.

Main Street Iowa leaders talk of Grundy Center potential

GRUNDY CENTER —Grundy Center’s downtown district has a lot of potential. That was the assessment of Main Street Iowa leaders last week near the end of their three-day visit to the community.
    Jim Engle, director of the Iowa Downtown Resource Center, which administrates the Main Street Iowa program, said Grundy Center has a unique combination of factors that will make it a strong Main Street community.

One of a kind ... Schupbach P.E. legacy will be felt for years to come

    GRUNDY CENTER — Rick Schupach had one final thing he wanted to do as a physical education teacher in the Grundy Center Community School District. After 27 years, teaching at the long-gone Lower Elementary, recently-shuddered Upper Elementary and the current Grundy Center Elementary, Schupbach returned to his class one final time to teach what had become a highlight of his week ... one final SOS class with a group of fourth-graders.

G-R dissolution could result in Grundy Center school merger

    GRUNDY CENTER — A dissolution of the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Community School District could result in a partial merger of the district with Grundy Center.
    Last Wednesday the Grundy Center Community School District Board of Directors reviewed a letter outlining the petition for the dissolution of Gladbrook-Reinbeck as well as the response to the letter from Superintendent Jerry Schutz.

Grundy Center School Foundation presents grants

    Thanks to the generous contributions of parents, alumni, friends and businesses during the Grundy Center Community School District Foundation’s fundraising campaign this past spring and generous memorial gifts in honor of TJ Heronimus, the Trustees were able to award thirteen grants to faculty members totaling $13,317.78 for the 2015-16 school year. The grant awarded were as follows:
    • Subscription to Upfront magazine for grades 9-12 which supplements nonfiction reading into the English curriculum covering all core areas of study;
