Answers a long time coming for Decker family

GRUNDY CENTER — “You can’t even explain what it’s like to parent a special needs kid,” Breezy Decker said. “You can’t and that’s fine. I am so happy for those that don’t get it.”
New parents tend to ask themselves lots of questions. Am I doing this right? Is it normal for him to eat this much or this little? When will we get sleep again? But for Mike and Breezy Decker, the questions were not normal. They wondered why their son wasn’t reaching the milestones they kept reading about. She wondered by the time he was six months old if she was raising a child with special needs.

City approves plan to lease Upper Elementary

    GRUNDY CENTER — Entities that use the Grundy Center Upper Elementary building appear to be on their way to a reprieve.
    Monday the Grundy Center City Council approved an agreement with the Grundy Center Community School District to lease the Upper Elementary for $1 and take over costs of running the facility.

Grassley: Budget issues to dominate remainder of session

    GRUNDY CENTER — As the Iowa legislature enters its final weeks, its priorities are turning toward completing the budget. That was the word from Rep. Pat Grassley (R, New Hartford) Friday as he spoke at the Kling Memorial Library in Grundy Center Friday.
    Grassley said the budget process is just getting started and that things could be a bit tighter than expected after the revenue generating conference came back with an estimate that legislators will have a little less new money to work with than they had anticipated.

Charlotte F. Zern

Charlotte F. Zern, 90, of Beaman passed away March 20, 2015, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, after a short illness. Funeral services were March 25 at Beaman United Methodist Church. Visitationwas March 24 at the Conrad Chapel of Anderson Funeral Homes in Conrad. Kenneth Walters

Kenneth Duane Walters, 83, of Grundy Center passed away March 20, 2015 at Grundy County memorial hospital LTC unit while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.Visitation will be held Thursday, March 26 from 5-7 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church Fellowship hall in Grundy Center and services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 27, at Bethany Presbyterian Church.  Memorials may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Leslie C. Green

Leslie C. Green, 85, of Conrad passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 27, at the Conrad United Methodist Church in Conrad. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 26, at the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, in Conrad. Pastor Gene Kubli will officiate with interment in the Conrad  Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Conrad American Legion Post 681 or the Winnebago Council- Boy Scouts of America.

Robert “Bob” Ammann

Robert “Bob” Ammann was born March 18, 1942, in Wellsburg. He passed away on March 19, 2015, at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center after suffering a cardiac arrest while working outside his home on Elk Mountain. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Elk Mountain in early summer.  A scholarship in Bob’s name will be set up for Marshall Island students who attend  Kwajalein High School.

Doris M. Becker

Doris M. Becker, 85, of Grundy Center, formerly of Garrison, died Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton with Father Ardel Barta as Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home and for an hour prior to Mass on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the Garrison Cemetery, Garrison.

Warren Anderson

Warren Anderson, 91, of Holland died March 21, 2015, at his home while under the care of Unity Point Hospice. Funeral services were March 25 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland. Visitation was March 24 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Burial followed funeral services at the Holland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Esther Ubben

Esther Ubben, age 78, of Aplington died at her daughter's home after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) on Saturday, March 21, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 26 at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.
