Iowa Select Farms donates pork loins to Operation Threshold Food Pantry

GRUNDY CENTER - Early last week, the Operation Threshold Food Pantry in Grundy Center received a generous donation of 120 fresh pork loins from Iowa Select Farms.
Jodi Rowe, of Operation Threshold of Grundy County, said the donation is a huge help to the pantry’s mission, saving them money that can be used to provide other necessities for families in need of some extra help.
“We want to give a big thank you to Iowa Select,” Rowe said. “We appreciate their generous donation and support of the pantry.”

NICL East Baseball Champions: D-NH ready for final regular-season tests

DIKE – Sean Leonard feels like his team is going to compete for an NICL East title, year in, year out.

Dike-New Hartford baseball came through again this summer, making it four league titles in a row after clinching the championship last Monday in Dike with a sweep of Wapsie Valley.

Now, the Wolverines turn their attention to a tough end to the regular-season schedule, trying to prepare themselves for what they hope will be a deep postseason run.

NICL West Softball Champions: BCLUW makes undefeated run

CONRAD – BCLUW softball felt like they left something on the table last summer.

The Comets' bid for a three-peat as NICL West champions was disrupted by a four-loss league campaign and BCLUW was bounced from the postseason in the regional semifinal by East Marshall.

"I think that set us on fire to come back this season," Comet senior Bailey Ashton said.

GRUNDY CENTER – Grundy Center baseball's defense made enough plays to fight back an AGWSR rally for an eight-inning victory, 4-3, at the George Wilhelm Sports Complex on Wednesday night.

In the eighth inning, Jensen Clapp's hustle in right field snagged a shallow fly ball that prevented AGWSR from breaking the tie with runners on the corners. That led to the bottom half of the frame, where Travis Kuester took a leadoff walk, moved to second on a ball put into play by Marshall Day and Brayden Sawyer delivered the game-winner on a base hit scoring Kuester from second.

Single run gets BCLUW softball past AGWSR

CONRAD - The unbeaten NICL West campaign continued for the BCLUW softball team, escaping with a narrow 1-0 win over AGWSR.

An unearned run in the host’s half of the third inning was the game winner. BCLUW’s Parker Scurr coaxed a base-on-balls to begin the at bat, took second and third with sac-bunts by Kiersten Kruse and Olivia Hughes, and scored when Easton Swanson’s ground-ball was mishandled.

The one-run win was the Comets’ fourth in league play and third 1-0 victory along with West Marshall and Grundy Center.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys snip Grundy Center

REINBECK – The bottom of Gladbrook-Reinbeck's lineup stepped up on Thursday to help lift the Rebels to a 4-3 victory over Grundy Center.

G-R improved to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the NICL West while Grundy Center fell to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in league play.

Rebel junior Tyler Tscherter got four free passes on Thursday as Grundy Center forced G-R to find other ways to score runs rather than Tscherter, one of the top hitters in the state with 10 home runs this season.

AGWSR baseball keeps it rolling

ACKLEY –The AGWSR baseball team registered a perfect work week with a 4-3 North Iowa Cedar League West Conference win over East Marshall.

The Cougars (4-8, 4-6) with just one win against eight losses entering the week, finished 3-0 over the past five days. AGWSR opened the week beating Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 7-3 last Monday followed by a 6-2 victory over BCLUW Wednesday.

“We have had good focus this week and took care of business,” said AGWSR coach David Showalter.
