Area postseason baseball pairings

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released postseason baseball pairings for Class 1A and 2A competitors on Wednesday morning.
 
Postseason games for area teams in both classes begin on Saturday, July 13, with district semifinals all played on Tuesday, July 16 and district finals scheduled for Saturday, July 20. District champions advance to the substate finals, scheduled for Tuesday, July 23. Substate final winners advance to the state tournament.

Friends, Family and Felix Fun: Grundy Register invites public to participate in photo contest

The Grundy Register will be holding a photo contest that is open to the public during this year’s Felix Grundy Festival. The contest is open to anyone, regardless of age or skill level.
The theme is: Friends, Family and Felix Fun.
We welcome all photos that highlight what makes the Felix Grundy Festival special to you, along with a brief explanation of why the festival is special to you.
Photos must be submitted by the end of the day on July 15.

Work continues on downtown facade project

 
GRUNDY CENTER - With Felix Grundy Days fast approaching, the crew at Cardinal Construction have been working hard to put the finishing touches on the facade renovation project in downtown Grundy Center.
 
On Tuesday afternoon, workers used a crane to place a new cap on the turret atop the Spartan Fitness building at 629 G Ave.
 
A crowd of onlookers, including Spartan Fitness owner Jenny Meyers, gathered to watch the progress.

One local man - Logan Clark - who lives outside of Holland, was recently awarded Iowa Select Farms’ very first SelectCare Excellence Award in honor of his outstanding character and excellent work ethic.

City of Wellsburg makes changes to fireworks ordinance

WELLSBURG - With the Fourth of July quickly approaching, those looking to discharge fireworks in the Wellsburg area should be aware of a change in the ordinance for fireworks that is now in effect.
 
According to the City of Wellsburg ordinance on fireworks, users must be 18 years old to discharged consumer fireworks without parental supervision.A person shall only discharge the fireworks on real property they own, or on property where consent has been given.
 

Celebrate the Fourth of July in Grundy County

REINBECK – The annual Reinbeck Fourth of July celebration is right around the corner, and community members from around the county are invited to join in on this year’s festivities.
The event, which is organized annually by the Citizens for Reinbeck committee, will be held on Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 4 this year.
 
This year, there are several new events and activities along with the tried and true favorites.

Signs of life

In this day and age, it seems that every neighborhood, town, county and state is attempting to define ‘cool,’ focus grouping what it should be doing to make itself cooler and fighting an ever-growing battle for the hearts, minds and attention spans of the population at large. It can get a bit exhausting at times, but I’m happy to report that Grundy Center is winning—although, to borrow a quote from a certain someone, we aren’t quite tired of it yet.
 

Green shares Girls State experiences

Deidra Green, a BCLUW senior-to-be, was one of over 200 young leaders chosen to attend the annual Girls State convention in Des Moines last week, and as she described it to the women of the Conrad American Legion Auxiliary on Monday afternoon, she learned a ton about the processes of government at all levels throughout the five-day event that ran from June 16-21.
