Grundy Center tax rate to stay steady, taxes to climb

    GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center residential property owners can look forward to more money coming out of their pockets for taxes next year despite the City holding the line on tax rates.

Case announces candidacy for Grundy County Recorder

GRUNDY CENTER – Today, Travis Case announced that he will run for the office of Grundy County Recorder in the June 3 Republican Primary Election. Case, a native of Beaman, cites a desire to serve the public and his past experience as reasons for deciding to run.

Grundy Board begins superintendent search

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center School Board has begun its search for a new superintendent.
Last Tuesday during a special meeting, the Board met with AEA 267 representative Roark Horn about several options it could use to replace Cassi Murra, who has taken the superintendent position in Knoxville. Among options discussed were sharing a superintendent with another school district, hiring somebody on their own or hiring a search firm to help the Board find a suitable candidate.

Carl Lambertus Nederhoff, 92, of Wellsburg passed away February 12, 2014, at his home. There are no services planned at this time. C. E. “Satch” Paige

C. E. “Satch” Paige, age 82, of Waterloo died February 11, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. Memorial services are being planned for a later date with inurnment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.  His body has been cremated.  There will be no visitation.  Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Spartans drops two in final week of regular season

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center boys dropped games to a couple of NICL-East teams, Columbus and Dike-New Hartford, in their final week of regular season play. The Spartans fell to the Sailors 70-39 on their home court Tuesday after coming up short in a closely played road game at Dike, 64-57 on Monday.
The 6-15 Spartans opened the postseason with a Class 1A first round game against Clarksville at Grundy Center on Monday, Feb. 17.

Spartan girls fall in regular season finale

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center girls’ basketball team closed out the regular season with a pair of losses, falling to Columbus 43-37 at home in their final regular season game last Tuesday, after dropping a game to Class 2A No. 8 Dike-New Hartford at Dike on Monday, 76-35.
The 11-10 Spartans played BCLUW in the first round of the Class 2A Region 2 postseason bracket on Saturday.

Wolverines fall just short in dual regionals

    STATE CENTER — Dike-New Hartford saw its dreams of a state dual tournament berth come up two points short last Tuesday as it dropped a dual regional final to familiar foe West Marshall, 33-31.
    The Wolverines (23-5) had fallen to West Marshall 42-34 on Jan. 20.
    The difference in the match was bonus points. Each team won seven bouts in a rare forfeit-free matchup, but West Marshall had four falls while D-NH had three falls and a major decision.

Parker makes history with 53 points against West Marshall

DIKE – It was a history making week for the Dike-New Hartford boys’ basketball, specifically for senior Carson Parker, as he achieved a record-setting 53 point performance in the Wolverines’ 79-77 win over West Marshall last Tuesday.
