Bernard D. Venenga, age 79, of Grundy Center passed away July 15, 2014, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral service were held July 21 at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Grundy Center American Legion Post #349 and AMVETS 17. 2014 Fair to feature all new schedule

GRUNDY CENTER — Changes abound as the Grundy County Fair moves into a five-day run next week that includes its most extensive weekend schedule in many years.
    Public activities at this year’s Fair will begin two days later than usual, on Wednesday instead of Monday, and will carry all the way through the following Sunday.

Three to compete in Fair Queen contest

GRUNDY CENTER — Three local young ladies will vie for the crown of Grundy County Fair Queen next Wednesday as the Fair begins its five-day run at the Grundy County Fairgrounds.
    This year’s event will be part of Family Fun Night, which begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the grandstand. The queen will present ribbons during the final four days of the Fair and will represent the Fair at community events through the following year. She will also represent Grundy County at the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest.

Council turns down TIF request

    GRUNDY CENTER -- The Grundy Center City Council last Tuesday declined a request for a development agreement that would have brought up to five new jobs to the city.

Cougars earn second straight state tourney bid

Play it again AGWSR. Monday night the AGWSR High School softball team earned its second straight trip to the state softball tournament with a 9-5 victory over Don Bosco. The fourth-ranked Cougars (27-6) will take on No. 11 Marquette Catholic (34-6) at 3:30 p.m. next Tuesday at the State Tournament. More on the Cougars’ big victory in today’s sports section.
