Robert Raymond Brandt, 87, of Reinbeck died September 14, 2014, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A Memorial service was held September 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck with Pastor Mike Campbell officiating. Inurnment was held at the Reinbeck Cemetery following the memorial service. Memorials may be directed to the family. Grundy Center natives hired as new officers

GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center Police Chief Doug Frost did not have to look far to find a pair of full-time officers to complete his force. Instead he stayed close to home, hiring Grundy Center natives Chris Henely and Mitchell Turner to fill out a force that has been working at half its normal staffing for several months.
    “I think they’ll be a good addition to the force,” Frost said. “I can’t wait for them to get going.”

Council approves raises for police captain, part-timers

GRUNDY CENTER — Three Grundy Center Police Officers will see increased pay. Monday the Grundy Center City Council approved the raises during its regular Council meeting.
    The raises are for Terry Oltman, who has been promoted to captain, as well as a pair of part-time officers. Mayor Brian Buhrow said the raises were overdue, as Grundy Center’s salaries had fallen behind those of other communities its size. The resolution for the raises passed unanimously.

Grundy Center residents ask County to pay for state highway runoff damage

GRUNDY CENTER — The discussion of who will pay for runoff-related damages on G Avenue (Highway 14/175) in Grundy Center reached an agreement to disagree Monday, with one side claiming the County should compensate property owners for damages and the other saying the damages are not their responsibility.

UniFirst hints at expansion, jobs at former A-Kleen location

GRUNDY CENTER — A long-time Grundy Center business is seeiing a period of transition. UniFirst Corp., based out of Wilmington, Mass. with more than 225 locations nationwide, has acquired the A-Kleen from original owners Randy and Joanne Nelson, who founded the Grundy Center company in 2001.
    Joey Hightower, general manager of UniFirst, said in an interview conducted via e-mail that the company’s founders and top executives have been friends with the Nelson’s for nearly 10 years.
