    GRUNDY CENTER ­— Students at Grundy Center Junior-Senior High School were greeted by a pair of new or renovated facilities as they returned to classes Wednesday … facilities that will not only improve their learning environment, but also their safety in the event of a severe storm.
    Last weekend and as teachers prepared for Monday’s open house, final touches were being placed on the school’s new tornado safe area as well as vastly renovated high school science rooms.

    GRUNDY CENTER — A week passed, but little changed in the ongoing debate between a group of Grundy Center residents and the Grundy County Board of Supervisors over who should bear the financial burden related to runoff damages after the Iowa Department of Transportation resurfaced Highway 14/175 in 2007.

Roger L. Hinders, age 74, of Belmond, a Grundy Center, native died August 17, 2014, at his home in Belmond following a short battle with cancer with his family at his side. A family celebration of Roger's life will be held at the Stohres Ponds Conservation area near Grundy Center which was one of Roger's favorite places to spend his time.  Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial or card in Roger Hinders name may direct them to the family c/o Mary Hinders, 804 3rd Street N.E., Belmond, IA 50421.

Eileen L. Schultz 91, of Marshalltown, formerly of Grundy Center, died August 20, 2014, at Oakview, in Conrad. Services were held August 25, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held August 24 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. On-line condolences may be posted at www.abelsfuneralhomes.com.
